Breast Reduction

Breasts are important, special organs of women that play a very important role in the external appearance of women and affect sexuality to a great extent. Very large breasts can negatively affect a woman’s self-confidence, social and bilateral relations, and the way she dresses. The breast can be structurally large for various reasons. One may be smaller and asymmetrical than the other. Or sagging may occur after breastfeeding and weight loss. Breast reduction surgery comes into play in such cases.

Breasts grow during puberty at the age of 9-14 and continue to develop until the age of 19-20. Some women have a familial large breast structure. In some women, breasts are large due to excess weight. Even when the breasts are different from each other during development, if the size of the smaller breast is sufficient, the same size can be achieved as a result of the reduction process to be applied to the larger breast.

BIG BREASTS;
Pain in the back, neck and shoulder
Rash in the lower fold of the breast
Hygiene defect and odor formation in the breast fold
Slump in the shoulders due to the pressure of the bra
Loss of self-confidence (relationship with her partner may be badly affected or she may not be able to wear the clothes he/she wants)
BREAST REDUCTION AND LIFT OPERATION;
In patients with extremely large breasts
In patients with sagging breasts after giving birth or gaining and losing excessive weight
It can be applied in patients whose two breast sizes are not equal.
WHICH TECHNIQUE IS USED IN WHICH PATIENT?
The height of the patient, the width of the rib cage, the diameter of the breast, the position of the nipple (nipple-areola complex) determine the type of operation to be performed.
Superomedial pedicle technique: It is one of the most commonly used methods, it is a very safe technique in which the sensation of the nipple is preserved and breastfeeding is least affected. The breast shape can also be shaped to be round and upright. It can be applied to large or small breasts.

Superior pedicle technique: It is safe, beautiful shaped breasts are obtained, but it is very successful in small saggy breasts, while it can make it difficult to reduce the breast as desired in large breasts.
Inferior pedicle technique
Central pedicle technique
Free nipple technique: If pedicled methods are not safe for patients with extremely large and drooping nipples, the nipple is removed like a free skin patch and moved to its new place.
Which of all these different techniques will be applied is decided by the conversation between the doctor and the patient, according to the patient’s needs.

WILL THERE BE ANY MARKS ON MY BREAST? WILL I BE ABLE TO BREASTFEED? WILL I GET CANCER?
Although the size and shape of the scars change as a result of all these techniques, you will definitely have a scar on the sewing line. However, this permit will lighten in color within 1 year and become less disturbing.
If the chosen method is one of the pedicled techniques, breastfeeding will not be a problem. However, it should be known that the lactation capacity will decrease compared to the pre-operative period.
Breast reduction surgery itself does not trigger cancer, on the contrary, since it reduces the existing breast tissue, it reduces this risk as the tissues that may cause cancer are removed. After making sure that the breast is healthy by performing breast ultrasound or mammography before the operation, any aesthetic breast operation is performed.

POST-OPERATIVE CARE
You will stay in the hospital for 1 day after the operation. The patient is discharged after the drains are removed and a sports bra is put on. Painkillers will be sufficient for pain control during hospitalization and at home. You can take a shower on the 4th or 5th day.
For the first 2-3 weeks, it is beneficial to avoid heavy exercises, especially those involving the upper body. 3. At the end of the week, you can start walking and exercising for the lower body. For the upper body, it will be safer to start exercising after the 6th week.
As with all surgeries, we recommend that you do not smoke before and after breast surgeries. This is important so that wound healing is not impaired and scars are minimal.
