Nose - Rhinoplasty

Nose - Rhinoplasty

The art of rhinoplasty is to improve the appearance and proportion of a nose without altering the identity of a face.

What is it?

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery of the nose. To improve its shape, the surgeon may add or remove bone or cartilage, and graft tissue or synthetic implants. The aim is to correct unsightly features or treat problematic respiratory conditions.

What is the procedure?

An extensive medical consultation is a prerequisite before a rhinoplasty. It includes : internal and external check-up of the nose, evaluation of the quality of the covering skin and discussion of the results that can be expected.

During the procedure, the surgeon will make tiny incisions inside the nostrils and separate the skin from the nose structure, making it easier to reshape and remove excess bone and cartilage. The remaining skin is then replaced over the new framework; in order to adapt well, it will call upon its elastic properties. That explains the importance of a good skin quality and health to obtain optimal results after a rhinoplasty.

What can be treated?

Rhinoplasty enhances facial harmony and self-confidence, and may even give a younger look. After the surgery, it takes 6 to 12 months for the nose to progressively reach its final appearance in texture and contour.

Side effects and risks?

After a rhinoplasty, the lower eyelids and upper part of the cheeks are swollen and bruised.

As in any cosmetic surgical intervention, certain complications are possible, such as infection, asymmetries, temporary reduction of sensitivity of nose and upper lip and loss of sense of smell. For each patient, the ratio between benefits and risks must be carefully evaluated. More detailed information will be delivered by the surgeon during the initial consultation.
